GENDER EQUITY COMMUNITY ARTS PROJECT

During 2020, IS architecture was the Lead Artist for the Girls Own Space community arts project run by South Gippsland Shire Council and funded by VicHealth. IS architecture collaborated with a local carpenter co artist, to plan and run a series of workshops which took the female participants through a design and construction process.

 

The client was the Mirboo North and District Community Foundation who required a master plan and sketch design for their courtyard entry space. The Foundation wanted the space to be utilised by the community for gathering and engagement.

 

The design consisted of the sculptural use of locally sourced sustainable timber to create integrated seating, benches and planted areas. The sculptural forms invite passers-by to explore and utilise the playful space in a multitude of ways whilst creating a beautiful entrance for the Foundation.
